Zeiss Lightsheet Z.1 Selective Plane Illumination Microscope
Description:
Light sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM), also termed selective plane illumination microscopy (SPIM), is a planar illumination technique in which fluorescence excitation and detection are decoupled into separate optical pathways. With this novel optical design, illumination using a thin laser light sheet provides an inherent optical sectioning capability without the need to adopt a pinhole, which significantly improves the efficiency of photon collection and imaging speed without compromising image quality. LSFM allows researchers to examine live, intact animal models, ex vivo tissue explants, 3-dimensional cell cultures and organoids, etc., at unprecedented speed with virtually no photobleaching or photocytotoxicity.
